Come As You Are: Therapeutic Yoga Without the Pressure to Perform

Yoga is often presented through images of perfect poses, impressive flexibility, and effortless balance. But therapeutic yoga is not about how a pose looks. It is about how the practice helps you feel.

In my therapeutic yoga classes, students are invited to come exactly as they are. There is no expectation to perform, push through discomfort, or keep up with anyone else. You do not need to be flexible, experienced, strong, or able to move in a particular way. The practice meets you where you are on that day.

Your Body, Your Practice

Every body is different, and every day is different. Energy levels change. Pain and mobility can fluctuate. Stress, illness, injury, and life experiences all affect what feels possible.

That is why my classes offer options rather than demands. Movements and postures can be adapted, made smaller, supported with props, or practised from a chair. Rest is always welcome. You are encouraged to listen to your body and choose what feels supportive, rather than forcing yourself into a prescribed shape.

There is no "perfect" version of a pose. The most beneficial version is the one that works for your body in the present moment.

Feeling Better Is the Goal

Therapeutic yoga uses gentle movement, breathing, rest, and mindful awareness to support wellbeing. Depending on your individual needs, the practice may help you:

  • Release physical tension

  • Improve mobility, balance, and body awareness

  • Feel calmer and more grounded

  • Support more comfortable breathing

  • Build strength gently and gradually

  • Develop a kinder relationship with your body

  • Create space for rest and restoration

The intention is not to achieve more. It is to notice what you need and explore what might help you feel more comfortable, connected, and at ease.

A Space Without Comparison

Yoga is not a competition, and progress does not have to mean stretching further or holding a posture for longer. Sometimes progress is recognising when to pause. It may be choosing a gentler option, breathing more freely, or leaving class feeling a little calmer than when you arrived.

In my classes, you are encouraged to focus on your own experience rather than compare yourself with others. There is no pressure to prove anything. Your choices are respected, including the choice to rest or not do a movement at all.

Reaping the Benefits Where You Are

You do not have to change yourself before you can benefit from yoga. Yoga can be adapted to meet a wide range of bodies, abilities, and circumstances. The practice begins with what is available to you now.

My aim is to create a welcoming, compassionate space where you can explore yoga at your own pace. You are not expected to perform. You are simply invited to breathe, move in ways that feel supportive, and give yourself the opportunity to feel better.

Come as you are. Start where you are. Let the practice support you there..
